Tall, Dark, and Dead – 71 – Zombiez
Director: John Bacchus
Leads: Jenicia Garcia, Jackeem Sellers
Favorite quote: “I don’t want to hurt you! I just want to cut your f***ing heart out!”
Thoughts: The Z on the end tells you all you need to know.
Zombiez is kind of a messed-up take on voodoo lore. The zombies are alive, it is repeatedly stressed, and are used as weapons by their creator. The zombies not only use tools and evince intelligence, but are actually commanded to eat the flesh of the living, which is one of the few things that managed to capture my attention.
The only really insightful comment I can offer is that it seems that the zombie curse/experimentation is equated with drinking, in this film – at least, that’s suggested. As the setting of the movie is a deserted, violent, low-income part of town, it might be possible to spin this into a commentary on drug and alcohol abuse. I’m not going to stretch for it, though.
There was some okay dialogue, and I found myself enjoying Jenicia Garcia’s performance.
